By acoustic event classification, special kinds of signals can be detected such as siren signals or other sounds that may relate to critical situations for autonomously driving cars. The student shall support to the development of this product.
Acoustic Signal Processing - Emergency Vehicle Detection
Future cars shall become aware of their environment and the conditions under which they are operated. This is especially relevant for automomous-driving vehicles. One important component for these systems is the analysis of the acoustic scene. Exterior microphones can capture the sounds from the surrounding. By acoustic signal processing and classification methods, special kinds of signals can be detected such as siren signals or further sound events that may relate to critical situations. Deep-learning based methods are applied to train models for the different sound classes and acoustic events using large databases of labelled audio signals.
Preferably, the candidate has:
- interest in acoustic signal processing
- experience in scientific computing in Python (optional)
- good/ excellent language skills in English and/or German, as well as good communication skills, in both oral and written form
